Having regularly visited Spain for five years or so now Almeria has been missed off our itinerary, just over an hours drive from San Juan we decided on a visit this May. Almeria doesn't seem to get particularly kind write-ups being a provincial city (though was once one of Spain's largest) The old city is the place to head for with the Cathedral and expansive 10th Century castle with fabulous gardens. A great place for lunch near the castle is Teteria Almedina (www.teteriaalmedina.com) just great north African cuisine. On the way back a detour coastwards onto the Cabo de Gata is a national park with a great drive along the coast through to Mojacar. To the north is Nejar, a small picturesque white walled village.
10 minutes drive north of San Juan at Jaravia, hardly intercity but certainly connected ........ with a change or two right the way through to Alicante and onto Valencia.. |
